What is Hand Therapy All About?

Do you experience numbness or tingling in your hand? Maybe you struggle with persistent pain or chronic pain that keeps you up at night and frustrated all day. If these types of issues are keeping you from doing the things you enjoy, or even simply performing day-to-day tasks, Muskegon Surgical Associates can help. We will find the root of the problem and determine how best to solve it. The solution may be surgery followed by therapy, or hand therapy on its own.

Although hands are used every day, we often take them for granted until we start having problems, and those problems can stem from a wide variety of sources. After pinpointing the source of the problem, oftentimes hand therapy can be an effective treatment option.

Hand therapy addresses conditions and injuries of the hand, as well as the wrist. It uses therapeutic interventions to return patients to their highest level of functioning. Here at MSA Hand Center, we have certified hand therapists that work closely with physicians and patients to provide expert and experienced care.

Therapeutic treatment includes the use of exercise, massage, stretching, and modalities such as ultrasound, laser and electrical stimulation to decrease pain and increase strength and range of motion.

This course of treatment can allow for a non-surgical intervention, preventative care or post-surgical rehabilitation. Patients who may be good candidates for hand therapy are those who are showing signs of an overuse injury, who have symptoms of nerve damage, or who have suffered from an accident or trauma to the hand resulting in damage to bones and tendons.

Our hand therapists are here to work with you and help you get back on the job and back to enjoying everyday life pain-free. We will even communicate with employers to ensure a smooth return to your place of work so you have the tools you need to complete your daily tasks in a healthy productive way. If you struggle with hand pain, call us to set up an appointment. We will help you get back to pain-free days again soon!
