Typically an outpatient procedure, a nose job requires general or local anesthesia and is performed by a plastic surgeon. During the operation, the surgeon makes cuts within the nostrils. In more difficult cases, the surgeon may also make cuts across the base of the nose. The surgeon then reshapes the inner bone and cartilage to produce a more pleasing appearance.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Why Choose a Nose Job?<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">For most people, rhinoplasty is a purely elective surgery designed to reshape the nose to achieve a more desirable appearance. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, rhinoplasty can treat a number of issues, including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nose size in relation to facial balance.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nose width at the bridge or in the size and position of the nostrils.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nose profile with visible humps or depressions on the bridge.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nasal tip that is enlarged or bulbous, drooping, upturned, or hooked.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nostrils that are large, wide, or upturned.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Nasal asymmetry.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In other cases, rhinoplasty is used to correct the nose after an injury, improve an obstructed airway or deviated septum, or repair a problem with the cartilage that separates the nostrils.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Risks and Recovery<br \/>\n<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any surgery comes with a risk of bleeding, infection, or an adverse reaction to anesthesia. Additional risks of rhinoplasty include nosebleeds, numbness, scarring, and swelling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A nasal splint is usually required for the first week or so. Patients are advised to avoid strenuous activity for up to six weeks.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After surgery, patients will experience swelling and some bruising around the eyes. This typically begins to improve after the third day but can last up to 2 weeks. After two to three weeks, there won\u2019t be any recognizable signs of surgery. A small amount of swelling, which will be unnoticeable, may remain for about six months.
