{"id":969,"date":"2021-06-16T01:04:52","date_gmt":"2021-06-16T01:04:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/msapc.managed3.brouser.net\/hand-center\/?page_id=969"},"modified":"2021-12-30T16:09:08","modified_gmt":"2021-12-30T16:09:08","slug":"tfcc-injury","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/msapc.com\/hand-center\/hand-conditions\/tfcc-injury\/","title":{"rendered":"TFCC Injury"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Definition<\/h3>\n<p>The TFCC (Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex) is soft tissue that surrounds and stabilizes the DRUJ (distal radioulnar joint).\u00a0 It consists of a wedged shaped central disk and superficial and deep radioulnar ligaments.<\/p>\n<h3>Symptoms<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Ulnar-sided (little finger side) wrist pain<\/li>\n<li>Increases with forearm rotation and gripping<\/li>\n<li>Pain can be deep and aching in quality<\/li>\n<li>Pain may be associated with audible clicking<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Pathology<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Pain with the TFCC can be traumatic or insidious (non-traumatic)<\/li>\n<li>Traumatic rotational forearm\/wrist injuries often occur during athletic activity and car accidents<\/li>\n<li>Non-traumatic TFCC:\n<ul>\n<li>Positive ulnar variance (long ulna in relation to radius)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/hand-center\/hand-conditions\/ulnocarpal-impaction-abutment\/\">Ulnocarpal Impaction Syndrome<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Treatment<\/h3>\n<p><strong>Non-surgical<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Rest, activity modifications, removable splint, ice and NSAIDs (ibuprofen)<\/li>\n<li>Corticosteroid injection<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Surgical<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Indicated when non-operative treatment fails.<\/li>\n<li>Arthroscopic debridement<\/li>\n<li>Joint leveling\/ulnar shortening osteotomy\n<ul>\n<li>See <a href=\"\/hand-center\/patient-resources\/aftercare\/ulnar-shortening-osteotomy\/\">Post-op Ulnar Shortening Osteotomy information<\/a> for information on surgical recovery.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Definition The TFCC (Triangular Fibrocartilage Complex) is soft tissue that surrounds and stabilizes the DRUJ (distal radioulnar joint).\u00a0 It consists of a wedged shaped central disk and superficial and deep radioulnar ligaments.
