This is typically recommended after a <a id=\"mammogram_screening\"><\/a>mammogram or ultrasound has revealed a possible cause for concern, or a breast lump or other unusual change has been detected. There are several types of <a href=\"https:\/\/msapc.com\/general-surgery\/blog\/2021\/10\/30\/preventing-and-treating-breast-cancer-symptoms-mammograms-and-surgical-options\/\">breast biopsy procedures<\/a> used to\u00a0identify and diagnose abnormalities in the cells. The procedure chosen\u00a0depends upon a number of factors, including the size and location of the breast abnormality. The result of the biopsy will determine next steps and what treatment options to consider. A breast lumpectomy or mastectomy may be recommended if cancer is diagnosed.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dT4LJ6RXFVI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><span data-mce-type=\"bookmark\" style=\"display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;\" class=\"mce_SELRES_start\">\ufeff<\/span><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"lumpectomy_surgery\"><\/a>Lumpectomies<\/h3>\n<p>Also called <a id=\"partial_mastectomy\"><\/a>partial mastectomy, this procedure removes only the part of the breast containing cancer, as well as some surrounding tissues and lymph nodes. This option is usually considered if the cancer is in the early stages.<\/p>\n<h3><a id=\"mastectomy_surgery\"><\/a>Mastectomies<\/h3>\n<p>This surgery entails the removal of all breast tissue, some nearby tissues and often lymph nodes, in order to treat or prevent cancer. It can be performed on one or both breasts, and in combination with <a href=\"http:\/\/msa-plasticsurgery.com\/\">breast reconstruction<\/a> to restore breast shape.
